Delivery of the new vessel Caletta PDF Print E-mail

Dalmare S.p.A., a company of the D’Alesio Group, announces the delivery of the “Caletta” the latest of the vessels commissioned to the Korean Hyundai Mipo shipyards, with which the shipping company from Livorno has arrived to the completion of the entire renewal process of its fleet of Oil Tankers. 

With a displacement of 52.000 tonnes and certified for the transportation of oil and chemical products, the Vessel Caletta is equipped with a technological advanced instrumentation for the protection of human life at sea and for the maximum protection of the environment, complying ahead of time with the new the regulations regarding these issues, expected to come into force in the next few years

At the delivery ceremony, that took place at the Hyundai Mipo shipyard of Ulsan, the representative for the D’Alesio family was Gaetano D’Alesio, Chartering Manager of the ship owner group, accompanied by his wife Chiara, who acted as patroness of the launch.

 

With the total renewal of all its vessels, that started in 2006 with the entry into service of six new vessels for the transportation of petrochemical products (between 15.500 and 52.000 DWT) and 4 new vessels for bunkering services (DWT of about 2.400 T), the D’Alesio fleet can now boast an average age of 4.2 years (for the transport of oil products) and 3 years (for bunkering).

“We were the first Italian operator to have all bunkering vessels with a double hull” – declares Nello D’Alesio, Executive Vice President of the D’Alesio Group – “All the vessels of our fleet, besides meeting the very high standards of the major oil and chemical companies, are also provided with the additional RINA certification  “Green Star Design 3”  that ensures that, as far as the design, the construction and the operational management are concerned, the vessels satisfy certain requirements which guarantee the utmost respect for the environment.” 

The Caletta will immediately enter into service for the spot market with a mixed Italian and Indian crew of 22 seamen under the guidance of Master Antonio Scotto. The first palm oil voyage will take place towards the Rotterdam port area in the Netherlands.

The activities of the D’Alesio Group comprises the maritime transportation of petrochemical products and the bunkering service in the ports of Livorno, La Spezia, Piombino and Carrara. In 2010 the Livorno fleet transported overall about 5.5 million tonnes of product, whereas, as far as the bunkering service is concerned, in and around 500.000 tonnes of product was delivered.
