M/V MONTECRISTO BECOMES PART OF THE FLEET PDF Print E-mail

Friday 10 June, at the Korean shipyard Hyundai Mipo, the M/V Montecristo  has been delivered, the first bulk carrier of the special 56.000 dwt Supramax class of the Dalmare S.p.A.

The vessel, christened with the name of an Island of the Tuscan archipelago as proof of the bond between the Company from Livorno and its territory, with a crew of 20 Italian and foreign seamen will be employed on the great international routes for the transportation of mineral, coal and grain cargoes and for the moment will be part of the spot market.

The M/V Montecristo, classified RINA Green Star 3 Design has been built in accordance to the highest technical standards of the international industry for the safety and the protection of the environment; built with five holds and equipped with 4 cargo handling cranes, it can operate with the highest safety standards in any international harbour, also in those that do not have the proper equipment.

The delivery ceremony, presided over by Antonio D’Alesio, who with his brother Nello has been at the helm of the D’Alesio Group for over forty years, also saw the presence of his children Liliana, as the sponsor, and Mauro with their respective spouses.


The decision to become part, with the M/V Montecristo, of the “dry cargo” type of transportations represents a favourable economic-financial opportunity for the Company from Livorno that became a reality with Hyundai Mipo, the Korean shipyard in which the D’Alesio Group has built a total of nine vessels.

“The vessels of the Supramax class are under great demand and this adventure will allow us to be ever more competitive within a market that expects diversification and a greater operational flexibility” – maintains Nello D’Alesio, Executive Vice President of the D’Alesio Group – “As a matter of fact, we believe that we can offer our charterers all the managerial experience and the excellence gained in the last 60 years of oil and chemical shipping also for this type of market”.
